Managing notification preferences

How to control which alerts you receive, how you receive them, and what your team members can configure independently.

Written by Emilie Pain

Minut sends notifications by push, email, and browser alert. Each team member configures their own preferences independently- changing your settings does not affect anyone else in your organisation. This article covers every notification type, where to configure them, and how delivery works across channels.

How to access notification settings

Notification settings are personal. Each team member configures their own preferences. An admin cannot change notification settings on behalf of another team member- only that person can do it from their own account.

Mobile app

  1. Tap your profile icon (top left of the More tab) → tap your name

  2. Tap Notifications

  3. Toggle each notification type on or off- push, email, or both- per category

Web app

  1. Click your name or organisation name in the top left corner

  2. Click Notifications

  3. Toggle push and email independently per category

Notification types

Minut sends notifications across several categories. Each can be turned on or off independently for push and email.

Noise monitoring

  • Noise alert

Sent at each warning stage when noise exceeds your threshold for the set duration. All team members with access to the unit receive this- configuring it is optional but on by default.

Occupancy & Security

  • Arrival

Motion detected for the first time after a stay starts- confirming guest check-in.

  • No motion since stay start

No motion detected 5 hours after check-in- possible delayed arrival or no-show.

  • Early departure

No motion from 9pm to 11am mid-stay - guest may have left early.

  • Early check-out

No motion 2 hours after initial morning movement on departure day.

  • Motion during vacancy

Motion detected at night (18:00–06:00) when no stay is scheduled- possible unauthorised access.

  • Security alarm

Alarm triggered by motion when the security alarm is armed.

  • Tamper detection

Sensor removed from the mounting plate.

Indoor Climate

  • Temperature alert

Temperature outside your set range for 30 or more minutes.

  • Humidity alert

Humidity outside your set range for 30 or more minutes.

  • Almost freezing

Temperature below 5°C for more than 5 hours. Always active - cannot be disabled.

  • Mould risk

Conditions elevated to significant mould risk. Always active - cannot be disabled.

Hardware

  • Low battery

Sensor battery is running low. Also creates a task automatically if Tasks automations are enabled.

  • Sensor offline

Sensor has lost connectivity. Also creates a task automatically after 48 hours if Tasks automations are enabled.

  • Water leak detected

Water Leak sensor probe has contacted water. Critical alert- cannot be disabled.

Tasks

  • Task assigned

Someone else has assigned a task to you. Sent immediately. Note: assigning a task to yourself sends no notification.

  • Task due soon

A task assigned to you is due within approximately 24 hours.

  • Task overdue

A task assigned to you has passed its due date without being completed.

Push notifications require the Minut mobile app installed on your phone with notifications allowed in your device settings. Email notifications go to the email address on your Minut account. Desktop notifications show in Chrome or Edge when you are signed into the web app- the browser window must be open.

Per-unit notification preferences

In addition to the global notification settings, you can adjust preferences for individual rental units. This is useful if you manage a large portfolio and only want to receive alerts for certain properties- for example, if different team members are responsible for different buildings.

Mobile app

  1. Go to Properties → tap the rental unit → tap the settings icon (⚙)

  2. Tap Notifications — adjust push and email preferences for this unit only

Per-unit settings override global settings. If you turn off push notifications for noise alerts globally but leave them on for a specific unit, you will still receive push notifications from that unit. The more specific setting always wins.

Frequently asked questions

I'm not receiving push notifications even though they are enabled

Check that the Minut app has permission to send notifications in your phone's system settings — go to Settings → Notifications → Minut on iOS, or Settings → Apps → Minut → Notifications on Android. Also confirm you are signed into the correct account and have access to the rental unit generating alerts.

Can I stop getting notifications without turning off monitoring?

Yes- turn off push and email for the relevant category in your notification settings. Monitoring continues and events still appear in the event log. Alternatively, use Snooze from within an active noise event to silence alerts temporarily while monitoring stays on.

Why are my team members not receiving notifications?

Each team member manages their own notification preferences- check that they have enabled notifications in their own account settings. Also confirm they have access to the relevant rental unit and that their Minut app has system notification permissions enabled on their device.`

Can an admin turn notifications on for all team members at once?

No - notification preferences are personal and each team member controls their own. There is no organisation-wide override. The best approach is to ensure team members configure their preferences during onboarding.

I'm receiving too many noise notifications overnight

This usually means your threshold is set too low for the property. Review your Noise Preset - raise the quiet hours threshold slightly, or increase the duration before an alert fires. See Noise Presets Alternatively, turn off push notifications for noise alerts and leave email on so you get a summary without being woken up.

What is the difference between push and email notifications?

Push notifications appear immediately on your phone screen- best for alerts that need real-time response. Email notifications go to your inbox- better for team members who work from a shared inbox or don't need to respond immediately. Both can be enabled at the same time for the same alert type.
