Smart Alarm

Arm the security alarm automatically when nobody is expected in your Unit, and disarm it when somebody is.

Written by Emilie Pain

Smart alarm arms your Unit's security alarm when nobody is meant to be there, and disarms it when somebody is. You set it up once and stop having to remember the alarm around every stay and every cleaning visit.

It is off by default, and you turn it on per presence detection profile.

How Smart alarm works

Smart alarm does not watch your Unit continuously. It acts at the moments when the answer to "who is expected here" changes: a guest arriving, a guest leaving, a staff window opening or closing.

At each of those moments it asks one question: is anybody expected in this Unit right now? If nobody is, it arms. If somebody is, it disarms.

That is why a checkout does not automatically arm the alarm. If your guest leaves at 13:00 and your cleaner is booked until 16:00, somebody is still expected, so the alarm stays off and your cleaner is not met by a siren.

When your Unit counts as occupied

Your Unit is occupied when either of these is true:

  • a guest is booked in, or

  • staff are due according to your onsite schedule.

Set an onsite schedule

The onsite schedule is how you tell Minut when your staff are expected. Without one, Smart alarm arms whenever there is no guest, which means every staff visit needs a manual disarm.

You can set it two ways:

Mode

What it does

Weekly windows

Recurring days and times, for example Mondays 09:00 to 12:00. Set in half-hour steps.

Hours after checkout

A fixed window after every checkout, from 1 to 24 hours. Four hours by default.

Times follow the Unit's own local time, so 06:00 means 06:00 at the property wherever it is.

Turn on Smart alarm

  1. Open the presence detection profile you want to change.

  2. Turn on Smart alarm.

  3. Set an onsite schedule if your Unit has regular staff visits.

Nothing changes the moment you switch it on. Smart alarm waits for the next arrival, departure or staff window before it touches the alarm.

Two related settings sit next to it on the same profile:

Arming or disarming it yourself

You can still arm or disarm whenever you like, and Smart alarm will not fight you. Your choice stands until something actually changes at the property, and then Smart alarm takes over again at that point. There is nothing to reset afterwards.

Arming with a guest inside will sound the alarm. If you arm your Unit while a guest is inside, and motion is detected after that, the alarm will sound. Arming after somebody has arrived is treated as you saying the property should be empty.

Example

A Monday at one Unit, with cleaning booked from 12:00 to 16:00.

Time

What happens

Alarm

12:58

Your guest checks out

Stays off, the cleaner is still due

16:00

The cleaning window closes

Arms, nobody is expected

18:00

Your next guest checks in

Disarms

Limitations

  • Changes can take up to five minutes to reach the alarm.

  • A staff window shorter than five minutes may be missed. If motion is detected during one, the alarm will not start.

  • A Unit with no bookings and no onsite schedule is never touched. Whatever you last set stays.

  • Editing your schedule takes effect at the next arrival, departure or window change. Turning a window off while your cleaner is inside will not arm around them.

  • If a booking is created or moved after its own check-in time has passed, Smart alarm waits until the checkout before acting.

  • An alarm that is already sounding or counting down is never changed.

  • Turning Smart alarm off leaves the alarm exactly as it is.

  • An armed Unit looks the same in the app whether Smart alarm armed it or you did.
