The M3 sensor communicates its status through coloured lights on the front. Press the button on the front of the sensor at any time to check its current state. Some lights also appear automatically for example when a noise alert triggers, or when the sensor is charging.
Where is the button? The button is at the back (behind the magnetic plate).

What each light means in detail

Purple - circling
Setup mode
The sensor is in setup mode and ready to connect to a Wi-Fi network. This light appears when you hold the back button during installation or when updating Wi-Fi settings. The sensor is also broadcasting the Point Configuration network at this stage for Android users who need it.
During installation — connect to Wi-Fi in the app
White - circling, then fades out
Booting up or connecting
The sensor is starting up, connecting to Wi-Fi, syncing with the Minut server, or updating its firmware. This is normal and may take up to a minute. Do not turn the sensor off while it is showing a white circling light; you may interrupt a firmware update.
Do not turn off while white is circling
White → Green
Online and monitoring — all good
The sensor is connected to the internet and running correctly. White briefly circles as it checks the connection, then settles to solid green to confirm everything is working. This is the expected state during normal monitoring.
No action needed
Blue circling → Green
Security alarm is armed
The security alarm is active on this sensor. Pressing the button shows blue circling then settles to green, confirming the sensor is online and the alarm is armed. Motion detected while the alarm is armed will trigger an alert. Pressing the button also forces the sensor to sync its latest graphs and data to the app immediately.
Alarm is armed - motion will trigger an alert

Red - flashing
Flash and Sound alert active
The noise threshold has been exceeded and Flash and Sound is configured as the guest alert method for this property. The sensor flashes red and sounds for 10 seconds. This repeats at 10-minute intervals if noise continues. The flashing stops once noise drops below the threshold. This is intentional and visible to guests; it is the physical alert signal that the noise level is too high.
Guest alert in progress - noise level is too high
White → Red - solid
Cannot connect to the internet
The sensor is unable to reach the Minut server. It may be connected to Wi-Fi but unable to reach the internet, or it may have lost its Wi-Fi connection entirely. Check whether other devices on the same network are online. Try rebooting your router. If the issue persists, see Wi-Fi and connectivity or What to do when your sensor turns offline
Check your Wi-Fi - sensor cannot reach the internet
Red - solid (during long hold)
Appears during factory reset — after holding the back button for ~15 seconds
Factory reset complete
The sensor has been successfully factory reset. The sensor will announce “Factory reset” and light up red. Release the button. The sensor will restart and is ready to be installed as a new device. See Reinstalling and factory resetting the M3 sensor
Release button — sensor has been reset
No light
Sensor is off or battery is fully depleted
If pressing the front button produces no light at all, the sensor is either turned off or the battery has run completely flat. Connect via USB-C for at least 10 minutes before trying again. If it still does not respond after charging, contact hello@minut.com with the serial number printed on the back of the sensor.
Connect to USB-C to charge before trying again
Charging indicator lights
The charging indicator lights are on the back of the sensor, visible only after removing it from the mounting plate. They are separate from the front status light.
Blinking lights
Sensor is currently charging. The lights pulse rhythmically while the USB-C cable is connected and power is flowing.
Solid lights
Sensor is fully charged. Full charge takes approximately 2–5 hours from empty.
