The water leak sensor consists of a main body with a small power button for turning the device on and off. It includes a 1-meter cable that connects to a metal probe designed to detect water. The metal probe should be placed where water is most likely to accumulate, as it triggers the alert when it comes into contact with water.

The side of the main body without the button can be mounted on a wall using the adhesive sticker provided, and the probe end can be secured in place with a screw for added stability. The battery lasts up to 5 years and is not replaceable.

This guide will help you install, test, and properly place your sensor for optimal performance.

Step One: Prepare for Installation

  1. Open the Minut app on your mobile device.

  2. Click property/unit where you want to install the water leak sensor.

  3. Scroll to the Devices section and click the + icon to add a new device.

Step Two: Add the Water Leak Sensor

  1. Press the button on the back of the sensor until you hear a beep.

  2. On your Minut app select "Water Leak Sensor" from the device list.

  3. The app will activate your phone's camera.

  4. Use the camera to scan the QR code located on the sensor.

Step Three: Initial Connection to the Minut App

Troubleshooting:

In case your water leak sensor cannot be found or installed, please wait for 1-2 minutes and retry this step once more without turning your sensor on or off.

Sometimes it can take a bit longer time for your phone to recognize the device and even a few tries.

  1. After scanning, the app will connect the sensor to your account.
This process typically takes just a few seconds.

  2. You should now see the Water Leak Detection feature activated for your unit in the Minut app.

Step Four: Verify the Sensor

Verifying ensures that you understand how the sensor behaves during an actual leak.

  1. Set a small container of water on the surface where the sensor is installed.

  2. Make sure the metal probes are touching the water.
Do not submerge or tamper with the sensor’s main body.

  3. The sensor will beep at intervals, which means it has detected water.

  4. Within 2-5 minutes:

    • All users (members, admins, owners) of the property with the Minut app will receive a critical alert to the app.

    • If email notifications are enabled, an email will be sent.

    • The alert will also appear in the event log.

  5. To stop the alert:

    • Remove the metal probes from the water.

    • Thoroughly dry the metal probe tips.

    • Dismiss the alert in the app

Testing the Sensor before use:

We strongly recommend to test out your water leak sensor to make sure it can properly pick up the signs of a water leak, in the location it has been placed, before use.

If you do not test the sensor, it will work as expected; however, a warning will be placed on that unit within the Minut mobile app, where you've installed the sensor.

The verification step is important to complete so that you can directly see what happens in case of a water leak and your account is correctly setup.

Step 5: Place the Sensor

  1. Choose a location prone to water leaks, such as:

    • Under sinks

    • Near washing machines or dish washers

    • Beside water heaters or boilers with a reasonable distance

  2. Place the Water Leak Sensor within 5–10 meters of a Minut M3 or M2 Sensor and make sure the main Minut sensor and the water leak sensor stay connected and make sure the main Minut sensor is close enough to communicate with the water leak sensor.

  3. Make sure the metal probes touch the floor. This is critical: the sensor must detect water at floor level to function properly.

Placement Warning:

Incorrect placement may prevent the sensor from detecting leaks. The probes must remain in contact with the surface where water would pool.

Avoid areas exposed to excessive dust, moisture, direct sunlight, or extreme temperatures. The water leak sensor may not function properly under such conditions.

Consider where water would flow in the event of a leak:

If your space has a floor drain or sloped flooring, place the sensor in the area where the leak would naturally collect.

Getting an Alert & Testing the Sensor from Time to Time

We recommend testing the sensor at least the sensor at least once a year. Testing ensures that the battery works and the sensor is connected to your main Minut sensor. See Step 4 above for the verification procedure.
