Today, we’re offering all users a free upgrade of the lens in Point. This upgrade, based on a collaboration with a Swiss company specialising in lenses, vastly improves motion detection on our devices.

What happened? 

As a young company, we’re constantly working on ways to improve our products to ensure you have the best possible home security experience. The best way to do that is to listen, and after several of you gave us feedback saying that motion detection wasn’t sensitive enough, we decided to do something about it. So, we recently initiated a collaboration with a Swiss company specialising in lenses, and several experiments were launched to solve the problem. One of them turned out to be very successful, and we want to share that with you. 

How has it improved?

The top of the device consists of a thin, hard piece of plastic which also acts as the button. When someone moves in front of the device, heat radiation passes through the lens to a sensor that sits just beneath. The more radiation that passes through the higher the reading. Now the good news, the Swiss company we’re working with has managed to develop a new lens that significantly increases the amount of light that is able to travel through to the sensor, making the sensor much more sensitive, responsive and capable of monitoring a larger area of your home.

What does this mean for me?

We want to make sure that your Point is doing the best job of keeping your home safe, so as an existing Point user, we want you to enjoy this upgrade for free*. Once you have received your new lens, it should take less than a minute to replace. You can simply pop the old lens off using a credit card and clip in the new lens. We will even share a video of us doing it and detailed instructions with your shipment.

Why do I need to register for the new lens?
People move and when you've got thousands of addresses to keep track of, it happens more often than you'd expect. Thus, we will send out an email in late November where you can fill in your address and how many Points you have. 

How will you ship the new lens?
Customs and duties may apply in some countries. The lens is shipped with regular untracked post from our manufacturer in Hong Kong.
